Nelson's Values

In his campaign, Nelson will strive to ...

Make a HUGE Difference

  • Honest Government
  • Universal Health Care
  • Green Energy
  • Economic Justice

Honest Government:

Nelson Eisman has been a public employee for over thirty years and wants to return to the people of Wisconsin the pride and confidence that their state will once again lead the nation in progressive ideas. He helped start Volunteers in Probation of Dane County and worked with community groups to prevent crime and address the needs of troubled and challenged youth. Eisman worked for the Center for Public Representation and trained paralegals and community organizers. He led the effort to form the Wisconsin Halfway House Association to create legislation and bring government resources and private providers to serve vulnerable people. Eisman has been a union activist in the Wisconsin professional Employees Council, serving on the executive council and as chief steward; he has defended the rights of working people. As governor, Eisman's first Executive Order will be to rescind any work rule that limits the public employee's right to discuss the policies and practices of state government openly and freely with anyone at any time. For politicians who have been caught red-handed and for the all the citizens feeling the political blues, Eisman is in this race for Governor to "green up" our state government and return it to the people.

Universal Health Care:

The present system of health care delivery in our state and in the country is a worldwide embarrassment. Only we could burden our economy without serving our people and waste resources for so little gain. Every election politicians promise better health care delivery systems and then nothing significant changes. Eisman will introduce legislation to take health care off the backs of employers by expanding Badger Care to cover everyone in Wisconsin. Building on the Wisconsin Idea, the University of Wisconsin will be tasked to design a public utility for the delivery of a flexible health service delivery system that addresses appropriate service needs. Emergency rooms will address emergencies instead of general care for the uninsured. Walk-in immediate care clinics will serve many people efficiently. Families will have access to a doctor they choose and access to specialists by referral. Like Medicare this can be administered at a fraction of what is spent now.

Green Energy:

Eisman served on the Dane County Regional Planning Commission and the Madison Commission on the Environment. He lead the effort to create a storm water utility adopted by Madison. Eisman has been a active member of the Dane County Adult Conservation Corp for many years and serves as the President of the Friends of Lake View Hill Park. He has lead ecological restoration and community education efforts to bring environmental concerns to the community. Eisman wants to task the University of Wisconsin to renew the Wisconsin Idea by creating a public utility for sustainable energy and multimodal transportation planning. Now is the time we must stop burning coal and petroleum. We must use all of our engineering creativity to provide the energy we need from sustainable sources, including solar, wind, waves, biosources and recycled solid waste.

Economic Justice:

Eisman holds a degree in Business Administration and attended graduate school in economic history and computer design. His approach to funding public services is to return to a progressive income tax to balance the state budget. People have a right to a sustainable income, so single people earning less than $25,000 and families earning less than $50,000 will pay no taxes -- none! People earning above those amounts to $500,000 in annual income will pay the normal income tax rate, and people earning above $500,000 will pay a premium tax rate. Only retirement pension income, including social security, will be excluded from income. No property tax and no sales tax. A legacy tax of 10% will be imposed only on estates exceeding $10 million in liquid assets. The budget will be determined by the people of Wisconsin and then the budget balanced by determining the normal and premium rates for the income tax. Eisman's first budget will propose fully funding education from early childhood through voactional or post-graduate study with support for advanced degrees based on merit. With health care and education taken off the backs of working families, disposable income will result in prosperity for Wisconsin businesses. Prosperity reduces social stress and helps us all reach our potential for peace and universal human rights.
